Goalie Tryouts

ALL DATES/TIMES ARE SUBJECT TO CHANGE

Goalie Tryout Information

MEGA Goaltending will be the sole evaluator throughout tryouts.

Goalie Skills Day (run by MEGA) will be held for all traveling-level goalies (except Jr Gold).

Note: 15U, 10U, and Squirt goalies will complete the skill portion of tryouts first, then pause to complete the remaining days with the remainder of those levels.

Skills will consist of 4 stations, each with a dedicated evaluator. Goalies rotate to each station, thus being evaluated by multiple evaluators. See below for the specific drills being evaluated.

Goalies will not be evaluated during the player skills day.

Goalie Skills Day Groups

Group Levels Date Time
Goalie Skills Group 1 10U, 12U, 15U, Bantam Goalies September 18, 2026 7:30 PM
Goalie Skills Group 2 Squirt & PeeWee Goalies September 18, 2026 8:45 PM

After team placement is complete for all levels, RAHA will provide the written evaluation portion from tryouts. This is intended to foster a development feedback loop from the tryout process (no numeric scores will be shared publicly).

For overall tryout dates and policies, see Tryouts 2026–2027. General goalie development resources are on the Goalies page.

Tryout Drills

2 shot pull drill: focusing on angles/depth, rebound control, and overall movement and save selection.

Entry to net play: focusing on how the goalie moves and interacts with plays that involve bad angle, behind the net, and post play situations.

3 breakaway drill: focusing on how the goalie plays rush-type situations, breakaways, as well as depth and athleticism.

In tight / post-to-post: shot from an angle — either play the rebound or play the pucks set up to the sides if the rebound goes too far. Focusing on how the goalie competes and moves to rebounds and any plays in tight.
