About Junior Gold
The Minnesota Hockey metro area District Directors created the Junior Gold High School League (formerly Metro Hockey League) over 20 years ago to run a Twin Cities, metro-wide league for all high school-age young men who do not play varsity or junior varsity hockey.
Jr. Gold is for players that don’t play high school hockey, but aren’t ready to hang up the skates. It has developed into a premier place for players to continue improving various skills, including hockey, leadership, and sportsmanship, in an enjoyable environment.
All Junior Gold teams play in the Junior Gold High School League (JGHSL), which will require driving to games in the seven-county metro area.
GAMES:
- 24 (12 home, 12 away) – 90 minute games of 15 minute periods with one resurface between the 2nd and 3rd periods
SEASON:
- 1st week of December through the end of February
- Teams can play into mid-March if they make the league playdowns and continue to the State Tournament
LEVELS OF PLAY:
- Junior Gold 16: June 1, 2008 to May 31, 2010
- Teams in district may change annually based on total number of JG 16 teams in any given year.
- JG 16 teams may qualify for Minnesota Hockey Regional and State Tournaments.
- Junior Gold: June 1, 2006 to May 31, 2008
- Divisions: A and B
- Teams in district may change annually based on total number of JG teams in any given year.
- Junior Gold A and B teams may qualify for Minnesota Hockey Regional and State Tournaments.
In the event your Jr. Gold team attends an out-of-town tournament requiring an overnight stay, NO player will be allowed to have his own hotel room. Minnesota Hockey requires an adult accompany the player and be in the room, even if the player is 18+.
Junior Gold Player Requirements
All players must register with USA HOCKEY.
Jr. Gold players who are 17 years old or older by December 31 of the playing season are required to complete USA Hockey SafeSport online training before they can participate in any Junior Gold activity or be placed on a team roster.
